Sweet lime rasam recipe – a delicious and tangy South Indian rasam using sweet lime fruit. A South Indian meal feels incomplete without rasam. There are different types of rasam like pepper rasam, tomato rasam and lemon rasam.

This rasam is made with sathukudi or mosambi. You can have rasam as an appetizer or serve it with rice and a perfect side dish for this is potato fry.

a South Indian style soup flavored with sweet lime.
Ingredients
- 1 sweet lime ( mosambi / sathukudi )
- 1 ripe tomato
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 2 dry red chillies
- 1 tbsp rasam powder
- A few coriander leaves
- A few curry leaves
- 1 tsp oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Extract the juice from sweet lime.
- In a bowl, mash the tomato and add around 2 cups of water.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, asafoetida, dry red chillies and curry leaves.
- When the mustard seeds splutter, add the water with the mashed tomato and salt.
- Add the rasam powder. Let it simmer on low flame till it starts to froth and then remove from heat.
- Finally add the sweet lime extract and mix well.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
Notes
- As a variation, you could add cooked toor dal also along with the mashed tomato and boil the rasam.
