Spicy Puffed Rice - Masala Pori recipe

masala pori - a quick and easy snack using puffed rice and spices.
  • 2 cups pori ( puffed rice / murmura )
  • 1/4 cup peanuts ( groundnuts / verkadalai )
  • 1 tsp finely chopped garlic
  • 1/8 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 dry red chillies, broken
  • A pinch of asafoetida ( hing )
  • A few curry leaves
  • 2 tsp oil
  1. Peel the garlic and finely chop them.
  2. Heat oil in a kadai or pan. Add asafoetida and mustard seeds. Once mustard seeds splutter, add peanuts.
  3. Stir fry till peanuts change color to golden brown. Now add finely chopped garlic, broken dry red chillies and curry leaves.
  4. Fry for a minute and then add turmeric powder. Mix well.
  5. Finally, quickly add in the puffed rice.
  6. Keep stirring for a couple of minutes till the puffed rice turns crisp and remove from heat.
  7. Masala pori is ready to be served. Else, you could let the pori cool down completely and then store in an airtight container.
1. You can add some salt if required.
