This recipe is an Andhra style spicy garlic chutney. I guess the word spicy is an understatement. It is a fiery hot chutney and full of flavor. It tastes awesome with dosa or idli.

It’s an easy chutney to prepare and it can be stored for upto a week.

A dry spicy garlicky chutney

Ingredients

  • 5 large garlic cloves
  • 2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 tbsp oil

Instructions

  1. Peel the garlic and crush them coarsely. I used a mortar and pestle.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and asafoetida.
  3. When the mustard seeds splutter, add crushed garlic.
  4. Fry till the raw smell of garlic goes.
  5. Now add salt and red chilli powder.
  6. Keep frying this for around 20 minutes on medium heat so that the garlic is infused with the masala.
  7. Switch off the stove and serve this chutney with dosas or idlis.
  8. You can store this chutney for upto a week.
