Pomegranates are one of the most nutritious fruits and have many health benefits and this juice is one of the ways to incorporate pomegranates in your diet.
I love adding pomegranates as a main ingredient like in mint and pomegranate raita or to add a touch of sweetness to a dish like dahi poha.
Homemade pomegranate juice or anar juice is healthy and easy to make and so much better than the packed readymade juices.
I have added freshly squeezed lemon juice and a hint of mint, which gives a nice tangy taste to this delicious juice. As for an interesting fact about pomegranate, its name is derived from the Latin name pomum granatum, which literally translates to apple with many seeds.

- Also, they are rich in fiber which helps in improving our digestive system
Lets move on to the recipe for easy pomegranate juice.
How to make pomegranate juice
- Wash the pomegranate and cut it cross-wise into two halves. Then again quarter the pomegranate and peel off the skin to collect the pomegranate seeds in a wide bowl. This is the way that I usually remove the pomegranate seeds because I feel it is less messy. Discard the white pith and collect only the seeds.
- In a blender, add the pomegranate seeds along with 1/2 cup water, freshly squeezed lemon juice, sugar and finely chopped mint leaves.
- Pulse the pomegranate seeds till they have released their juice. Make sure not to over-blend or the seeds will get crushed too much and the juice will turn bitter.
- Strain the juice through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl. Additionally, using the back of a spoon, press the pulp on the strainer to extract maximum amount of juice and discard the seeds.
- Add 1 1/2 cups ice cold water and mix well. Check for sugar and add, if required. Serve immediately in glasses, adding a couple of ice cubes, if needed. This juice tastes great when chilled.
