The pungent and aromatic ginger root is a popular herb used in Asian cooking. Fresh ginger is available all the year round and apart from adding a zing and flavor to dishes, it has many health benefits.

There are various forms of ginger available, either as fresh or dried, picked, powdered, oil and juice. You could add fresh ginger to curries, stir-fries or even cakes and cookies. The humble ginger tea is widely used as a natural remedy for cold.

  • Ginger aids in digestion
  • It can be used to treat stomach troubles and can help reduce flatulence.
  • It is used as a natural treatment for cold and flu.
  • Ginger can reduce motion sickness. It reduces all symptoms associated with motion sickness – nausea, vomiting, dizziness and cold sweating.
  • It can also be used to reduce morning sickness.
  • Ginger contains anti-inflammatory compounds called gingerols and they are found to relieve pain from arthritis, muscle cramps and rheumatism.
  • As per findings, it is believed that ginger has the ability to eliminate cancerous ovarian cells, though there is still more research needed.
  • Ginger helps in improving the immune system.
