Arai keerai poriyal is a simple, easy and quick side dish that can be had as an accompaniment to rice or rotis.
This healthy South Indian dish is made with arai keerai, but you could use any other variety of greens like spinach ( palak ) or mulai keerai for this recipe.

Arai Keerai Poriyal – a healthy South Indian greens stir fry recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 bunch keerai / greens
- 1 onion
- 2 green chillies
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1/2 tsp chana dal
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- A few curry leaves
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Wash the greens thoroughly and chop finely.
- Chop onion and garlic. Slit green chillies.
- In a pan, heat 1 tbsp oil. Add mustard seeds and asafoetida.
- When mustard seeds splutter, add chana dal.
- Once the dal turns brown, add chopped onions, garlic, green chillies and curry leaves.
- Saute till the onions turn soft.
- Now add the greens along with salt and little water.
- Cook till the greens are done.
- Serve arai keerai poriyal as a side dish for rice or chapatis.
