Sweet Corn Chaat

by Jiya Jesh · Updated on June 7, 2020 Street Food / Chaats

Sweet corn chaat recipe – an easy chaat using sweet corn kernels. This sweet corn chaat is healthy too and a perfect snack for the monsoons.

I love all Indian chaats and this super quick chaat is one of my favorites. You will need just a few ingredients and you get a mix of tangy, sweet and spicy flavors.

The natural sweetness from the sweet corn makes for a wonderful combination with crunchy onions and tangy tomatoes. Kids will love this chaat.

Another thing I like about this chaat just like the bread dahi vada chaat is that there is no cooking involved except for steaming the sweet corn. Just mix the vegetables and the masala and you have the chaat ready in no time.

The best part about this recipe is that it is a healthy and guilt-free snack. There is no oil or butter in this dish and you have nutritious sweet corn in it. Sweet corn is rich in dietary fiber and also a good source of vitamin C. Lets move on to the recipe for easy corn chaat.

An easy and healthy snack using sweet corn kernels.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sweet corn kernels ( fresh / frozen / canned )
  • 1 onion small
  • Sev for garnishing
  • 1 1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tomato small
  • Cilantro / coriander leaves for garnishing
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1 tsp chaat masala powder

Instructions

  1. Remove the husk and the silk from the corn.
  2. Wash the corn and steam it or boil it in enough water till it turns soft.
  3. Meanwhile finely chop the onion and tomato.
  4. Deseed the green chilli and mince it. If you like a spicier version, retain the seeds.
  5. Once the corn cob has cooled down, separate the kernels from the sweet corn cob.
  6. In a large bowl add the sweet corn kernels.
  7. Add the chopped onions, tomatoes and green chillies.
  8. Sprinkle chaat masala powder and add the freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  9. Mix well. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and sev.
  10. Serve the corn chaat immediately.

Notes

  • You can use canned corn instead of fresh ones. In that case, skip the step of boiling the corn cobs.
