Popsicle Stick Coasters Craft

by Jiya Jesh · Updated on July 15, 2022 DIY| Easy craft

Popsicle sticks / craft sticks are fun materials that can be used to make these DIY drink coasters. You could easily paint on popsicle sticks and decorate them in any way and you can make a bunch of these popsicle stick coasters.

Kids will love this easy and frugal craft. You could make these and gift them or just use it at home. Do check out the popsicle stick photo frame craft that I have already posted.

I have made two popsicle stick coasters, one in which I just painted a scenery and another is a simple one, where I painted the popsicle sticks in pink color and then painted small blue squares, spaced at equal intervals.

For a bit of history on popsicles, Frank Epperson from San Francisco, California, invented popsicle by accident in 1905. He left a cup of powdered soda and water mixture with a stirring stick in it, on his back porch on a cold night. In the freezing weather, the soda water had frozen inside the cup and the next morning, Epperson found the frozen pop, which he called as the “Epsicle”. Later, he renamed it to “Popsicle” and sold the rights to the brand to the Joe Lowe Company in New York.

Now coming to this craft, as I have already mentioned, its a very simple craft where you just need to glue the popsicle sticks and then let go your creativity on them. Reuse those popsicle sticks instead of throwing them away and make these easy popsicle stick coasters.

Materials needed for a coaster

  • 15 popsicle sticks / craft sticks
  • Glue
  • Acrylic paints
  • Paint brush

Method
Apply glue on one side of a popsicle stick and stick it on to another stick. You will be doing this for a total of 10 sticks that will form the top part of the coaster.
For the underside, glue 2 sticks horizontally on each end. Then glue one diagonally across, for stability.
Let this dry for 10 minutes.
Now you will need to just paint using acrylic paints onto the top part of the coaster and your diy popsicle stick coaster is now ready to be used!
