French Toast

by Jiya Jesh · Updated on July 15, 2022 Bread| Breakfast| Egg dishes| Leftover recipes

French toast is a classic breakfast or brunch recipe that can be whipped up in a few minutes. Its a great way to make use of leftover stale bread.

This recipe is a sweet version of french toast.

I have used the regular whole wheat bread here. You could use white bread or thick breads. This is a good breakfast recipe for kids. Do try this simple and delicious eggy bread recipe.

sweet eggy toasted breads.

Ingredients

  • 4-5 slices of bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1.5 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder (optional)
  • Honey or maple syrup or powdered sugar
  • Oil or butter

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs, milk, sugar and cinnamon powder together.
  2. Heat a griddle or tava or skillet.
  3. Once heated, add oil or butter and coat the surface of the griddle with it.
  4. Dip a bread slice in the egg batter, evenly coating the bread slice with the batter and place it on the greased griddle.
  5. Cook on medium heat till it is browned on one side, then flip over and again cook till it becomes brown.
  6. Drizzle maple syrup or honey or sprinkle powdered sugar and serve hot.

Notes

  • It is best to use stale bread for this recipe as it will absorb more of the egg batter.
  • You can avoid adding sugar in the egg batter and instead serve it only with the sprinkled powdered sugar or honey or maple syrup.
