Rajma masala recipe is red kidney beans in a tomato based gravy and is a popular North Indian dish. It is a lightly spiced dish that can be had with rotis or rice.

There can be nothing more comforting than a serving of rajma masala on a plate of steamed rice or jeera rice. Do try this simple and delicious curry.

a delicious red kidney beans curry that can be served with rice or rotis.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rajma / red kidney beans
  • 1 big onion chopped
  • 2 tomatoes medium-sized chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves chopped finely
  • 1 inch piece ginger chopped finely
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp amchur powder / dry mango powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1 inch piece cinnamon
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil

Instructions

  1. Soak rajma overnight or for around 8-10 hours.
  2. Drain the water and pressure cook soaked rajma along with enough water till it becomes soft.
  3. Grind the tomatoes and keep aside.
  4. In a pan, heat oil. Add cinnamon. Then add chopped onions, garlic and ginger.
  5. Saute till the onions turn translucent.
  6. Then add the tomato paste along with all the dry powders and salt.
  7. Fry till the raw smell of tomatoes goes.
  8. Now add the rajma along with water and cook till the rajma is coated well with the masala.
  9. Serve rajma masala hot with rice or rotis.
