- Chop the carrots and beans finely.
- Dry roast rava in a pan till you get a nice aroma from it and it turns light brown.
- Transfer it to a bowl and keep aside.
- Heat 3 tsp oil in the same pan. Add mustard seed and asafoetida.
- When mustard seeds splutter, add chopped onions, ginger, green chillies and grated ginger.
- Saute till the onions turn translucent.
- Now add the chopped tomatoes, carrots, beans and green peas along with salt and turmeric powder.
- Cook over a low flame till the vegetables are almost cooked.
- Add water and once it comes to a boil, add the roasted rava slowly, stirring at the same time so that no lumps are formed.
- Once rava is cooked and all the water is absorbed, remove from heat.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve rava kichadi hot with chutney or sambar.
Notes
- You can substitute oil with ghee ( clarified butter ) for a richer and more aromatic kichadi.
- Chop the carrots and beans to small pieces so that they get cooked faster.
