Food Fact: Origin of Sandwich

Sandwiches are easy to prepare and can be had at any time of the day!

A sandwich consists of a filling between two slices of bread. The filling could be vegetarian, non-vegetarian or a combination of both.

Did you know that the sandwich got its name from John Montagu who was the Fourth Earl of Sandwich. It is said that he when he was at a game of cards, he ordered his valet to bring him some meat filled between two pieces of bread.

This way he could eat meat as well as continue playing cards since his bare hands did not become greasy by eating meat. As Montagu was the 4th Earl of Sandwich, people began to say ‘the same as Sandwich’ while ordering for this food item.
