Palak Pulao / Spinach Pulao

Palak Pulao is a simple and nutritious pulao recipe using spinach. Palak has been used along with tomatoes, carrots and peas for this lightly spiced pulao. Have it hot with a raita of your choice.

a healthy rice pulao recipe using spinach.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 big onion
  • 2 cups chopped spinach
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chopped carrots
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1/4 cup peas
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 green cardamoms
  • 1 inch piece cinnamon
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 3 cloves
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder ( dhania powder)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the rice for about 20 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add the whole garam masala – bay leaf, cinnamon, cardamoms and cloves and fry.
  3. Add cumin seeds and fennel seeds and fry till the cumin seeds turn brown.
  4. Now add the sliced onions, ginger and garlic paste and saute till the onions turn translucent.
  5. Add the chopped tomatoes along with salt, red chilli powder and coriander powder.
  6. Fry till the tomatoes are mashed.
  7. Add in the chopped spinach, carrots and peas and saute for a few minutes.
  8. Now add rice along with required amount of and pressure cook it for 2 whistles.
  9. Palak pulao is ready to be served.
