Avarakkai Poriyal (Broad Beans Fry)

This is a simple South Indian preparation of broad beans / avarakkai. It goes well as a side dish for rice and can also be had with rotis.

a simple broad beans dry curry recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped avarakkai (broad beans)
  • 1 onion
  • 2 dry red chillies
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • A few curry leaves
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Slice the onions. Chop avarakkai and garlic.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and red chillies.
  3. When the mustard seeds crackle, add the urad dal and curry leaves.
  4. Now add the sliced onions and garlic.
  5. Once the onions turn soft, add the chopped avarakkai, salt, turmeric powder and chilli powder.
  6. Add enough water to cook the avarakkai.
  7. Once the avarakkai gets cooked and dried, remove and serve hot with rice.
