Vazhakkai Podimas

There was one raw banana available and I decided on making this easy and tasty curry. There are no strong masalas used for this recipe and it gets done in a jiffy. Its a South Indian recipe and goes well as an accompaniment to rice and kuzhambu.

Easy grated raw banana stir fry recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 vazhakkai ( raw banana )
  • 1 onion
  • 2 red chillies
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • A pinch of asafoetida ( hing )
  • A few curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil

Instructions

  1. Slice onions.
  2. Cut the raw banana into two halves and boil them in water till they turn soft.
  3. Once done, let them cool and then remove the skin of the bananas.
  4. Now grate them and keep aside.
  5. In a pan, heat oil. Add red chillies, mustard seeds and asafoetida.
  6. When the mustard seeds crackle, add the urad dal and curry leaves.
  7. Once the dal turns brown, add the onions. Fry till the onions become translucent. Now add the turmeric powder.
  8. Then add the grated raw banana and salt.
  9. Let this fry for a few minutes. Since its already boiled, you don’t need to fry it much.
  10. Remove from heat and serve vazhakkai podimas hot as a side dish for rice.
