raw mango kachumber / kachi keri kachumber recipe – quick and easy raw mango salad that serves as a delicious accompaniment to any meal. This salad has unripe green mangoes and onions tossed with spices and is a delightful mix of tangy, sweet and spicy flavors.
Ripe mangoes have always been a favorite of mine. I usually end up cutting the mangoes and gorging on them as such or prepare a simple mango mint raita. And with raw mangoes or kacha aam, I end up making an instant pickle.
For a change, I made this simple and easy Gujarati style salad using unripe green mangoes perfect for summer.
In this recipe, the tangy taste of raw mangoes is combined with spices and sugar. Onions too add a nice crunch and flavor to the salad. It is almost a no-cook recipe as only roasting of the cumin seeds involves the use of your stovetop. There is nothing that can beat the use of freshly ground spices and it does enhance the taste of your salad.
Green mangoes which are not very sour are best suited for this salad. Serve this raw mango salad with your meals and it tastes great when served chilled. I love having it with dal-chawal or chapatis or khichdi.
As for health benefits of mangoes, they are rich in vitamin C and a good source of dietary fiber. So apart from making pickles with green mangoes, do try this quick and delicious salad. Lets move on to the recipe for easy raw mango salad.
How to make raw mango kachumber salad step by step
- Wash the unripe green mange, peel the skin and finely chop the mango into very small pieces, discarding the seed. Take the chopped raw mangoes in a bowl.
- Then add finely chopped onions and finely chopped green chilles.
- Sprinkle salt, freshly roasted cumin powder, red chilli powder and sugar and mix well.
- Finally add the chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
- Serve the raw mango salad chilled.

Ingredients
- 1 cup finely chopped green mango
- 1/3 cup finely chopped onions
- 1 green chilli, de-seeded
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds ( jeera )
- 1 tsp raw sugar ( or white sugar )
- 1 tsp finely chopped coriander leaves
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Wash the unripe green mango and peel the skin of the mango.
- Then finely chop the peeled mango into very small pieces, discarding the seed.
- Finely chop the onion. De-seed and chop the green chilli.
- In a small pan, roast cumin seeds and grind slightly coarsely using a mortar and pestle.
- Take the chopped raw mangoes in a bowl. Add finely chopped onions and finely chopped green chillies. Sprinkle salt, the freshly roasted cumin powder, red chilli powder and sugar and mix well.
- Finally add the chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
- Serve the raw mango salad chilled.
Notes
- Use green mangoes which are not very sour for this salad.
- Adjust red chilli powder and sugar as per your taste.
