A popular Indian tea-time snack is onion pakodas or pyaz pakora. Who can resist the temptation to eat these pakoras when there is rain falling outside and the climate is cold! It is a very simple dish to prepare and tastes really yummy.
There are not too many ingredients needed to make this delicious snack. In this recipe, onions are sliced and dipped in a spiced chickpea flour or besan batter and then deep fried.
The onion pakodas are great to have with hot tea or coffee or with a tomato ketchup. Lets move on to the recipe for easy onion pakoda.

a quick and easy deep-fried snack recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup besan / chickpea flour / kadalai maavu
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 onions
- 2 green chillies
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- Mix turmeric powder and salt with besan in a bowl.
- Add water to make a batter that is neither too thick nor too thin.
- Slice onions into thin long slices.
- Chop the green chillies finely.
- Mix onions and chopped green chillies with the batter.
- Heat oil in a kadai for deep frying the fritters.
- When the oil becomes hot, drop spoonfuls of batter to the oil.
- Fry till they turn golden-brown on both sides.
- Remove and drain the oil.
- Onion pakoda is ready to be served hot with tea or with tomato ketchup.
