Pachai payaru sweet sundal is a traditional South Indian whole green gram sweet sundal recipe. For each the nine days of Navratri festival, a different legume or lentil is used to prepare sundal as naivedyam, as an offering to God.
This sweet version of sundal is made using whole moong dal / paasi payaru legume and sweetened with jaggery.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup whole green gram ( whole moong dal / pachai payaru )
- 1/2 cup powdered jaggery
- 1/4 cup grated coconut
- A generous pinch of cardamom powder
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Soak green gram overnight or for around 6 hours.
- Pressure cook the soaked green gram in little water for around 2 whistles, till they are soft, but not overcooked.
- Drain water and keep aside.
- Meanwhile, boil jaggery with little water till it melts.
- Strain to remove any impurities.
- Heat the strained jaggery in a pan along with salt and let it come to a boil.
- Now add the cooked green gram along with cardamom powder and mix well.
- Let this cook till the jaggery water dries up and is well blended with green gram.
- Finally add grated coconut and mix well.
- Remove from heat and green gram sweet sundal is now ready to be served.
