Papaya halwa recipe – a delicious and easy Indian style papaya sweet recipe. A quick recipe, this halwa uses just 4 ingredients.
I guess most of us are not very fond of this tropical fruit. I do sometimes prepare Papaya Lassi but this halwa is one dessert that I love to prepare using ripe papaya.
It tastes yummy and and you wouldn’t guess that it was made using the fruit. The deep red colored papaya pulp gives a naturally bright color to the dish without the need to use any food color.

a quick and easy sweet using ripe papaya fruit.
Ingredients
- 2 cups mashed ripe papaya
- 4 tbsp sugar
- A few cashew nuts
- 2 tbsp + 1 tsp ghee ( clarified butter )
Instructions
- Peel the skin of ripe papaya, discard the seeds and scoop out the papaya flesh.
- Mash the papaya to a pulp. You can use a blender if needed.
- Take the mashed papaya in a heavy bottomed pan.
- On medium heat keep stirring the papaya pulp. The juice starts releasing and the color of the papaya pulp starts changing.
- When the pulp dries ups, add sugar and keep stirring till the pulp thickens.
- Now add 2 tbsp ghee and mix.
- Stir till you see ghee separating from the pulp. Remove the halwa and keep aside.
- In a small pan, heat 1 tsp ghee.
- Add the cashew nuts and fry till they turn golden brown in color. Remove from heat.
- Add the fried cashew nuts to the halwa and mix well.
- Papaya halwa is ready to be served warm or chilled.
