Papaya halwa recipe – a delicious and easy Indian style papaya sweet recipe. A quick recipe, this halwa uses just 4 ingredients.

I guess most of us are not very fond of this tropical fruit. I do sometimes prepare Papaya Lassi but this halwa is one dessert that I love to prepare using ripe papaya.

It tastes yummy and and you wouldn’t guess that it was made using the fruit. The deep red colored papaya pulp gives a naturally bright color to the dish without the need to use any food color.

a quick and easy sweet using ripe papaya fruit.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups mashed ripe papaya
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • A few cashew nuts
  • 2 tbsp + 1 tsp ghee ( clarified butter )

Instructions

  1. Peel the skin of ripe papaya, discard the seeds and scoop out the papaya flesh.
  2. Mash the papaya to a pulp. You can use a blender if needed.
  3. Take the mashed papaya in a heavy bottomed pan.
  4. On medium heat keep stirring the papaya pulp. The juice starts releasing and the color of the papaya pulp starts changing.
  5. When the pulp dries ups, add sugar and keep stirring till the pulp thickens.
  6. Now add 2 tbsp ghee and mix.
  7. Stir till you see ghee separating from the pulp. Remove the halwa and keep aside.
  8. In a small pan, heat 1 tsp ghee.
  9. Add the cashew nuts and fry till they turn golden brown in color. Remove from heat.
  10. Add the fried cashew nuts to the halwa and mix well.
  11. Papaya halwa is ready to be served warm or chilled.
