Aloo Poha | Batata Poha Recipe

Aloo poha is a super easy recipe of beaten / flattened rice flakes with potatoes. This is a traditional Maharashtrian recipe and this dish can be served for breakfast or as a snack with your evening tea.

Aval / poha gets cooked very fast and this dish can be prepared for those busy mornings or when lazy to prepare something elaborate.

an easy breakfast of rice flakes with potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups thick poha / aval / flattened rice
  • 1 potato large
  • 1 onion medium-sized
  • 3 green chillies
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • A pinch of asafoetida / hing
  • A few curry leaves
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Take poha in a colander and rinse it under running water. Drain water completely and keep aside.
  2. Chop onion finely. Slit green chillies.
  3. Peel and cut potatoes into small cubes.
  4. Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and asafoetida.
  5. When mustard seeds splutter, add curry leaves and slit green chillies and sauté for a minute.
  6. Add chopped onions and fry till they turn golden-brown.
  7. Now add chopped potatoes along with turmeric powder and salt and mix well.
  8. Add little water. Cover and cook till potatoes turn soft and all the water dries up.
  9. Add poha and mix well. Cook for a couple of minutes on low flame, stirring frequently.
  10. Remove from heat, add lemon juice and mix well.
  11. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and aloo poha is now ready to be served hot!
