Ingredients
- 2 cups chopped green beans
- 1 onion small
- 1/2 cup chana dal / split bengal gram dal / kadalai paruppu
- 2 tbsp grated coconut
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 3 dry red chillies
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp broken urad dal
- A pinch of asafoetida
- A few curry leaves
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Chop onion finely.
- Pressure cook chana dal until it turns soft but not mashed.
- Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds.
- When they splutter, add broken urad dal, dry red chillies and asafoetida.
- Once dal turns brown, add chopped onions and curry leaves.
- Saute till onions turn light brown.
- Now add chopped beans along with salt and turmeric powder.
- Fry for 2 minutes. Then add little water. Cover and cook till beans turn soft.
- Then add cooked chana dal and cook for 3-4 minute, stirring at regular intervals.
- Finally add grated coconut and let this cook for a minute.
- Remove from heat and beans chana dal curry is ready to be served as a side dish for rice.
