Whole green moong dal curry is a delicious and simple curry recipe using mung beans. This North Indian style recipe goes well as side dish for rotis and rice.

Moong dal is rich in proteins and fiber and is good to be included in our diet. Lets move on to the recipe for easy sabut moong dal or whole green moong dal curry recipe.

Whole Green Moong Dal Curry recipe

a simple and delicious North Indian style curry using mung beans

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole green gram ( sabut moong dal / pachai payaru )
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 inch piece ginger
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook moong dal for 4-5 whistles or till the dal turns soft.
  2. Meanwhile chop onion, tomatoes, ginger and garlic. Slit green chillies.
  3. In a pan, heat oil. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida.
  4. Once they change color, add chopped onions, ginger, garlic and green chillies.
  5. Saute till the onions turn transparent.
  6. Now add the chopped tomatoes along with salt, turmeric powder and red chilli powder.
  7. Fry till the tomatoes get mashed.
  8. Then add the cooked mung dal.
  9. Add water and let this cook to the consistency required and remove from heat.
  10. Serve whole moong dal curry hot with rice or flat breads.
