Ingredients
- 1 bunch palak ( spinach )
- 1 cup kabuli chana ( chole / garbanzo beans )
- 2 tomatoes
- 1 onion
- 1 inch piece ginger
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Soak chickpeas in water overnight or for around 7 – 8 hours. Drain the water. Pressure cook the soaked chickpeas with enough water till they turn soft.
- Wash spinach leaves and chop them. Boil the chopped spinach in water for 2 – 3 minutes and blend it once it cools down.
- Chop onion, ginger and garlic. Blend the tomatoes to make a puree and keep aside.
- In a pan, heat oil. Add the chopped onions, ginger and garlic.
- Saute till the onions turn translucent.
- Then add the tomato puree along with salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder.
- Once the raw smell of the tomatoes goes, add the spinach puree and fry for a few minutes.
- Now add the cooked chickpeas along with water and simmer till the required consistency is achieved.
- Serve palak chole hot with rotis / chapathis / rice.
