Ingredients
- 2 cups chopped french beans
- 1/4 cup moong dal / split yellow gram / pasi paruppu
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 2 dry red chillies
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp broken urad dal / ulutham paruppu
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Boil moong dal with turmeric powder in enough water till it turns soft, but not mashed.
- Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and when they crackle, add cumin seeds, urad dal and asafoetida.
- Once urad dal turns brown, add dry red chillies and curry leaves and stir for a few seconds.
- Now add the chopped beans along with salt and turmeric powder.
- Add little water, cover and cook the beans till it turns soft, stirring at regular intervals.
- Then add the cooked moong dal, mix well and cook for 3-4 minutes.
- Serve hot as a side dish for rice.
