Potlakaya Perugu Pachadi | Snake Gourd Yogurt Chutney Recipe

Potlakaya perugu pachadi is an Andhra style snake gourd yogurt chutney recipe. Its a simple and easy dish made with the humble snake gourd.

Snake gourd that belongs to the cucumber family, is a low calorie and fiber rich vegetable. Snake gourd when combined with yogurt makes for a delicious dish that can be served with both rice and rotis.

Andhra Style Snake Gourd Yogurt Chutney | Potlakaya Perugu Pachadi Recipe

Potlakaya Perugu Pachadi – Snake Gourd Yogurt Chutney Recipe

An Andhra style snake gourd yogurt chutney recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped snake gourd ( podalangai / padwal / potlakaya )
  • 2 cups yogurt ( dahi / curd / thayir )
  • 3 green chillies slit
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds ( jeera )
  • 1 tsp broken urad dal
  • A few curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • 1 tsp oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Peel the skin of snake gourd and remove the seeds. Chop snake gourd into small pieces.
  2. Cook the chopped snake gourd along with salt in little water till they turn soft.
  3. Meanwhile, beat yogurt till it is smooth.
  4. Heat oil in a pan or kadai. Add mustard seeds.
  5. Once mustard seeds splutter, add cumin seeds and broken urad dal.
  6. When dal turns brown, add curry leaves and slit green chillies.
  7. Saute for a couple of seconds and then add the cooked snake gourd pieces.
  8. Fry for a minute and remove from heat.
  9. Once it cools down, add the yogurt to the prepared mixture and mix well.
  10. Check for salt and add little more if required.
  11. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and potlakaya perugu pachadi is ready to be served.
