Kaima idli / chilli idli recipe is a delicious snack of fried idlis and capsicum. Its also a way to make use of leftover idlis. This dish is a popular restaurant dish in Tamil Nadu.

Kaima Idli – Chilli Idli recipe

A delicious snack recipe using fried idlis and capsicums with spices.
Ingredients
- 4 idlis
- 1 onion
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 tomato
- 1/2 green capsicum ( bell pepper )
- 2 green chillies
- A few curry leaves
- 1/2 tsp fennel seeds ( sombu / saunf )
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- Coriander leaves for garnishing
- 2 tsp oil + oil for shallow frying
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Chop onion, tomato and garlic. Slit green chillies.
- Cut idlis into cubes and shallow fry them in oil.
- In a pan, heat 2 tsp oil and add fennel seeds.
- Add chopped onions, chopped garlic, curry leaves, slit green chillies and chopped capsicum and fry till the onions turn soft.
- Now add the chopped tomatoes along with salt and red chilli powder.
- Fry till the tomatoes are mashed.
- Add the fried idlis now. Sprinkle a few drops of water, mix well and fry for a few minutes.
- Remove and garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve kaima idli hot as it is or you could serve it with onion raita.
