Kaima Idli | Chilli Idli

Kaima idli / chilli idli recipe is a delicious snack of fried idlis and capsicum. Its also a way to make use of leftover idlis. This dish is a popular restaurant dish in Tamil Nadu.

The procedure for this recipe is simple but the dish is really yummy and will be enjoyed by kids. If you are bored with eating idli and chutney and want to try out a different version of idli, then do try this easy recipe.

Kaima Idli – Chilli Idli recipe

A delicious snack recipe using fried idlis and capsicums with spices.

Ingredients

  • 4 idlis
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tomato
  • 1/2 green capsicum ( bell pepper )
  • 2 green chillies
  • A few curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp fennel seeds ( sombu / saunf )
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • 2 tsp oil + oil for shallow frying
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Chop onion, tomato and garlic. Slit green chillies.
  2. Cut idlis into cubes and shallow fry them in oil.
  3. In a pan, heat 2 tsp oil and add fennel seeds.
  4. Add chopped onions, chopped garlic, curry leaves, slit green chillies and chopped capsicum and fry till the onions turn soft.
  5. Now add the chopped tomatoes along with salt and red chilli powder.
  6. Fry till the tomatoes are mashed.
  7. Add the fried idlis now. Sprinkle a few drops of water, mix well and fry for a few minutes.
  8. Remove and garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve kaima idli hot as it is or you could serve it with onion raita.
