How to make Vazhakkai Fry Step by Step
- Firstly Trim the ends of the raw banana. Peel the thick skin of the raw banana with a knife or peeler. I like to retain a thin layer of the skin. Chop the peeled raw banana into small cubes. Keep immersed in water till use.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a non-stick pan. Add a pinch of asafoetida and mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds splutter, add the chopped raw banana and stir.
- Let it cook on medium heat for around 5 minutes. Then add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt.
- Add the remaining 1 tsp oil and mix well.
- Let this cook on a low flame till the raw bananas are soft inside and slightly crispy outside. Keep stirring occasionally to ensure that the raw bananas are evenly cooked. Finally add garam masala. Stir fry on high heat for a minute and remove from heat.
- Vazhakkai fry is now ready to be served.

- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/4 tsp garam masala powder
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 1 tbsp + 1 tsp oil
- Salt to taste
